Mathis Plumbing was contacted by the School District for continuous sewer line stoppages that not only serve the boys restrooms, but also two commercial washing machines which was used to wash the football teams uniforms weekly.

Our technician, Hugh inserted a camera down these line sections to determine why the stoppages occurred so often. It was determined that the problem was the existing 50 plus year-old cast-iron sewer piping had substantially deteriorated which had resulted in built-up rust and corrosion in the interior of piping. Any paper and/or debris that entered the drainage pipe would not flow smoothly due to the rough interior of pipe. Paper and debris would not flow freely down the line. It would start piling up on itself until it resulted in a stoppage.

Since the piping involved close to 200 ft, it would not have been practical or feasible to traditionally saw cut and replace the 50-year-old cast iron pipe with new PVC piping.

The solution Mathis Plumbing recommended to School Personnel was first to descale the interior of the pipe to remove the hard built-up corrosion, flush & jet clean, dry with large volume of compressed air and then finally apply a patented 2-part epoxy barrier coating by a special Spin-Cast method to the interior walls of piping.

This process would not only allow paper and debris to flow more easily which would greatly reduce or eliminate future stoppages, but it would also extend the life and give the old cast iron piping another lifespan.

The project took only about a week, which was a lot less time and mess that would have occurred in a traditional solution. Mathis Plumbing was glad to have been able offer this alternative solution.
